How to Enable or Disable Password After Sleep in Windows 11

There is also an easy and simple way to enable or disable passwords when your PC wakes from sleep through Settings. Sleep mode is a handy feature on Windows that helps your PC reduce power consumption when you are away from your computer. Windows 11 bring a new feature to Disable Password After Sleep. When you set a password on your computer when you enable it then when enabling it then if you sleep on your computer and then it cannot need any password. We have a Sleep mode on all windows computers 11/on 10/8/7. This feature helps you to protect the data stored on your windows 11 computer.

Method 1. Use the Settings app

Step 1. Turn on your windows 11 computer and then open the Setting.

Step 2. Go to the Accounts tab and then click on Sign-in Options from the right-hand side of the screen.

Step 3. Click the drop-down button for If you’ve been away, when should Windows require you to sign in again? option and then select Never option.

Step 4. Apply the changes and put the new settings to the test by putting your system on Sleep mode.

Method 2. Use Windows Terminal

Step 1. Turn on your computer and then Press + R and then type wt press CRTL + SHIFT + ENTER to open an elevated Windows Terminal.

Step 2. Click on Yes when prompted by the User Account Control (UAC).

Step 3. To enable the password whenever your system wakes from sleep, copy and paste the following commands and press Enter.

On Battery: 
  • powercfg /SETDCVALUEINDEX SCHEME_CURRENT SUB_NONE CONSOLELOCK 1

Plugged in: 

    • powercfg /SETACVALUEINDEX SCHEME_CURRENT SUB_NONE CONSOLELOCK 1

To disable the password whenever your system wakes from sleep:

On Battery: 

  • powercfg /SETDCVALUEINDEX SCHEME_CURRENT SUB_NONE CONSOLELOCK 0

Plugged in:

  • powercfg /SETACVALUEINDEX SCHEME_CURRENT SUB_NONE CONSOLELOCK 0

Press Enter

Method 3. Use Command Prompt

Step 1. Open your computer and then open the start menu and search Command Prompt and click on Run as administrator.

Click Run as administrator

Step 2. Copy and type the following command into Command Prompt.

Disable password when you wake your system and sleep on battery:

  • powercfg /SETDCVALUEINDEX SCHEME_CURRENT SUB_NONE CONSOLELOCK 0 

Disable the password when you wake your system sleep when the system is charging:

  •  powercfg /SETACVALUEINDEX SCHEME_CURRENT SUB_NONE CONSOLELOCK 0

Enable password when you wake your system sleep on battery:

  • powercfg /SETDCVALUEINDEX SCHEME_CURRENT SUB_NONE CONSOLELOCK 1

Enable password when you wake your system sleep when the system is charging:

  •  powercfg /SETACVALUEINDEX SCHEME_CURRENT SUB_NONE CONSOLELOCK 1

Press Enter

Step 4. Now, Close the command prompt and then restart your computer.

Method 4. Use the Registry Editor

Step 1. Turn on your computer and then press CRTL + R and then type Regedit and press Enter.

Step 2. Now, Copy and paste the following location in the search bar.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

Step 3. Right-click on the Desktop registry key and click on New and click on Dword (32-bit Value).

Click DWORD (32-bit) Value

Step 4. Type DelayLockInterval as the name of the new DWORD value.

Type DelayLockInterval

Step 5. Double-click on the DelayLockInterval and set the Value data to 0 and then click on Ok.

Click OK

Method 5. Disable Login After Sleep Using Group Policy Editor

Step 1. Turn on your computer and then press WINDOWS + R and then type gpedit.msc and press Enter.

Step 2. Go to the Computer configuration tab and then go to Administrative Templates and then again go to System.

Step 3. Now, go to the Power Management tab and then click on the Sleep setting.

Click Sleep Settings

Step 4. Double click on Require a password when a computer wakes (plugged in).

Step 5. Select Disable option then click on Apply and then click on OK.

Click OK

Step 6. Next, double click on Require a password when a computer wakes (on battery).
